It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the tragic passing of a competitor during the warm-up session on the morning of Sunday, 4 May 2025, at the Simola Hillclimb.
The incident involved Car #30 – Pieter Joubert, with a yellow Lotus powered by a Mercedes-Benz SLS 63 AMG engine. Something broke on the car, Pieter lost control and went off the track during the non-competitive lap. Despite swift intervention from on-site medical teams, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
At the request of the family, who have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time, the event continues in honor of the driver’s passion and spirit. His legacy will live on through every engine fired and every corner taken with heart.
We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones, teammates, and the broader motorsport community.
His memory remains part of the hill—etched in every roar of the climb.
