In the beginning…

Well in my beginning that is. I started out doing pageantry at the age odd 3 years and walked many competitions in South Africa. I went through phases where I would enter a pageant just for the trill of it never expecting to walk away with any title.

In the past 27 years I have accumulated over 35 titles (of which I can remember) and today I feel like I have retired from the pageant industry as a model, BUT maybe someday Ill walk the ramp again for old times sake.

I enjoy the excitement and stress that goes with a competition. Each pageant is different with different requirements. Some pageants you just arrive ready and others take weeks to months to prepare for.

Obviously as a 3 year old it was not my idea to enter pageants as it was my mother’s dream, but as i got older I enjoyed it and when i think back today, there are many pageants I just should have passed, but then again gaining experience is what drives me.

In my 30 years of walking this earth I have owned 3 different Modelling Schools, 2 Agencies and more stage experience than anyone can think, so I think you can trust me when I tell you to walk up straight, walk in a line and smile!

Walking a line has become a norm for me on a day to day basis. Wherever I find myself walking I always walk in a line or on an invisible line. And I mean everywhere – Yes even at home walking from one room to another. I always walk on a line to a point where it feels weird if i don’t. I experienced that being pregnant made it hard to do the walking on a line thing which I also found hilarious because I would get angry at myself for walking wrong even if it looks like a normal walk to everyone around me, i knew this line i walked on was not a line it was more penguin steps – wobble wobble.

Point is the pageant industry has taught me that walking in a line, shoulders back, core tight, boobs out, chin up and smile is some heavy discipline not everyone can keep up with; but that should not stop you from trying. No one is too old or wise to learn something new!
